When I started ish in 1999, it was really a dream come true and beyond my wildest dreams. It was like being on top of the world!

Yeo Shih Yun (b.1976, Singapore)

YEO Shih Yun graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998 with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. She then joined LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts and completed a Diploma in Communication Design in 2001, prior to her pursuit of the Post Baccalaureate Programme in painting at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2002. Professionally, Yeo is known to reinterpret the very act of ink painting with striking results. Her experimentations with the fusion of the traditional form and contemporary mediums, such as new media or performance art, have garnered much acclaim, including a commission by the Singapore Art Museum and the recognition of the Sovereign Asian Art Prize People's Choice Award in 2012 as well as the UOB Painting of the Year Competition in 2007. Additionally, Yeo has held solo exhibitions in Singapore, Japan, and Germany, along with other group exhibitions on the international scene.

The second year was tough, I started to see that running a magazine is a business (and not all fun as I thought) and I was learning slowly as I went along.

Chris Lee / Asylum (b.1971, Singapore)

Prior to founding Asylum, Chris headed the design division in Bartle Bogle Hegarty Asia Pacific, and Ogilvy & Mather Singapore. His work in the creative industry is recognized with gazillions of awards and he has been featured in many international magazines. Apart from his commercial work, Chris is also very active in the design education, he guest lectures and has given talks to design universities and conferences around the world. He was the Founding President of The Design Society, a non-profit organization aimed at promoting creativity in Singapore. Chris is actually a virtual person that only exists in spirit.

ish got bought over by Page One Group, and suddenly, I became the Editorial Director of the publishing arm and the Creative Director of the group. It was an exciting time but I was suddenly loaded with so much responsibilities and the learning curve was steep.

Freeman Lau / KLandK (b.1958, Hong Kong)

As one of the partners of KLandK and a designer for over 30 years, Freeman’s creative works have a fine reputation and he has received over 300 prestigious awards. His Watson’s water bottle is one of Hong Kong’s most significant and renowned designs. Freeman is also famous for his sculptures and public art pieces. They have been collected by museums and galleries from all around the world, including Hong Kong, Japan, Beijing, Italy, Germany, Hawaii, to name a few. Freeman devotes himself to chair design and his Chairplay series have been exhibited extensively. In 2008, “Chairplay II” was exhibited in both the “China’s Space Soul - You•Xi” in the Yksi Expo, Designhuis and the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. In 2009, “Search ‘Mo’ Chair” was exhibited in Taiwan “X beyond O Calligraphy-Sign-Space” exhibition and his finest collections were exhibited at the Museum für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt, Germany in the same year.

Yao (b.1983, Malaysia/China) & Susu (b.1983, China) of 1983ASIA

1983ASIA was found by Yao((Malaysia) and SuSu(China) in 2012 Shenzhen China.
In 2017 they established Asia Aesthetics Institute focusing on Asia culture and art for graphic design.1983ASIA is a member of TDAASIA. This unique combination leads the international mix art trends. They also focus on brand design, mascot design, package design, product design and art crossover.1983ASIA is the tutor of the course "Asian Visual Design" in School of Design in Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Macao Polytechnic Institute and TSUBAKI. 1983ASIA once received Design for Asia Awards, Hong Kong Design Association Global Design Awards, Shen Zhen Design Awards, Tokyo Type Directors Club Annual Awards, won once gold award, 4 times silver awards, once bronze award and twice iron awards for A'Design Award, and also selected as "Design Hero" honor.

We started to participate in international book fairs such as the Frankfurt Book Fair, London Book Fair, BookExpo America, and peddled our original creations. Wide-eyed, I met all these publishers whose books I admired - Phaidon, Taschen, Chronicle, Harper Collins, etc - it was like martial art circles!

Špela Čadež / Finta (b.1977, Slovenia)

Špela Čadež was born in Slovenia 1977. After graduating in Graphic Design in 2002 she continued her studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Germany. Since 2008 Špela Čadež has been working as an independent animation director and producer. Her films have won over 100 awards with Grand Prixs at Animafest Zagreb, HAFF, Bucheon etc. and have been screened at festivals around the world, including Sundance, Clermont Ferrand, Annecy etc. Špela was invited as jury member and giving masterclasses in a number of festivals and has in 2018 been invited to become a member of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Niels Schrader / Mind Design (1977, Venezuela/Germany/Netherlands)

Niels Schrader is a concept-driven information designer with a fascination for numbers and data. He is founder of the Amsterdam-based design studio Mind Design and member of the advisory panel for the Creative Industries Fund NL. Next to his design practice Schrader writes regularly for the design magazine Novum and Open! – Platform for Art, Culture & the Public Domain. He has lectured at various academies and universities in- and outside Europe and is since 2013 co-head of the Graphic Design department at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

With the success of some of my books which secured co-publishing rights over several continents and the best-selling ones hitting a printrun of over 500,000, the company had even higher expectations of me, and I started feeling the pressure.

Holger Windfuhr / Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (b.1967, USA/Germany)

Born and raised in the United States, Holger Windfuhr studied psychology at the University of Michigan and graphic design at the U5 Academy in Munich. In 2010, he completed the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program. He began his career as a member of the development team at “Focus” magazine and then moved to the German edition of “Forbes”. After co-founding the digital consulting agency “The Media Machine” in New York, he joined “Money” magazine at Time Inc. and then “House & Garden” at Condé Nast. Returning to Germany, he redesigned “impulse” at Gruner+Jahr. From 2000 to 2016, he was the creative head of the German business magazine “WirtschaftsWoche” and guided the visual aesthetics of the brand. Since 2017 Holger Windfuhr has been the art director of the German newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, since September 2018 also of “Frankfurter Allgemeine Woche”. He is a member of the Art Directors Club and has won numerous design awards.

According to hearsay a state or condition of ..... Dromomania was a historical psychiatric diagnosis whose primary symptom was uncontrollable urge to walk or wander. It has come to be used non-clinically to describe a desire for frequent traveling or wanderlust.

Kelley:

Suddenly I felt trapped. And I decided to set up a bar/gallery called Night & Day.

Michael Ng aka Mindflyer (b.1964, Singapore)

Michael Ng aka Mindflyer (b. 1964) is a self-taught visual artist based in Singapore. Using the moniker "Mindflyer", he has been creating his art since 1989. His practice is embedded in concepts related to flight and escapism. Using a crazy mix of interesting aeronautical forms, bright colours, a mad dose of retro sci-fi and references to Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s "The Little Prince", he attempts to make everything "fly"! Some of his recent work includes commissioned artworks for the Coach, IBM, Microsoft, Singapore Art Museum, National Museum of Singapore, National Heritage Board, Samsung, Starbucks, The Elephant Parade, Tangs, Starhub and Jetstar. Besides painting, exhibiting his work, he is the founder for Illustration Arts Fest ( an annual festival since 2016 http://illustrationartsfest.org/) and also a founding member of the illustrator group OICsingapore ( since 2006 www.oicsingapore.com) where he is actively involved in engaging and challenging young illustrators.

I started planning my exit. And I started my second F&B venture called 15 minutes at LaSalle College of the Arts.

Yu Yah Leng / Foreign Policy Design Group (b.1972, Singapore)

Yah-Leng is the Founding Creative Director/Principal of Foreign Policy Design Group, a design and innovation consultancy based out of the tropical island of Singapore. She also co-created the official museum store Gallery & Co at the National Gallery Singapore. Yah-Leng was formally trained at the Art Institute of Boston before moving to New York City where her creative career blossomed. In 2007, she moved back to her hometown of Singapore where she co-founded Foreign Policy Design Group. Her works have been also recognized and honored by prestigious awards, accolades and publications. Yah-Leng is the current President of The Design Society Singapore and she had sat on the advisory board of the Temasek School of Design Singapore. She has also often been invited to speak and judge at festivals, conferences and institutions globally. Yah-Leng was named one of The Disrupters and Industry Leaders in 2017, 2018 and 2019 respectively on The Tatler 300 List by Singapore Tatler. She has recently been inducted as a AGI(Alliance Graphique Internationale) member.

Jianping He / Hesign (b.1973, Germany/China)

Jianping He was born in 1973, China. He is now living in Berlin, working as a graphic designer and publisher. He studied graphic design at the China Academy of Art (1991-1994), Meisterschule of Fine Arts in Berlin University of Arts (1997-2001) and had his PhD. of cultural history in Frei University of Berlin in 2011. He has been teaching in Berlin University of the Arts, and China Academy of Arts. His works have been globally awarded. Gold prize at International Poster Biennial in Warsaw; Red Dot Design Award in Germany; Gold prize at Joseph Binder Award in Austria; German Design Award and Yellow Pencil of D&AD in UK. In 2006, he received the Poster Art Yard in Rüttenscheid prize in Essen, Germany. His solo exhibitions have taken place in Germany, Malaysia, Ljubljana Slovenia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Nanjing China and ggg in Japan.

Theseus Chan / Work Pte Ltd (b.1961, Singapore)

Singapore designer Theseus Chan is best known globally for his self-published magazine Werk, a tour-de-force of graphic technique that often uses hands-on intervention to personalise each copy. Jackson Tan / PHUNK (b.1974, Singapore)

Jackson Tan (born 1974) is a Singaporean artist, curator, and designer. He is one of the founding partners of contemporary art and design collective PHUNK, the creative director of multidisciplinary creative studio BLACK, and the creator of Art-Zoo. PHUNK has presented and collaborated with brands and organisations around the world, such as Nike, MTV, HBO and The Rolling Stones. In 2007, they were conferred the Designer of the Year Award at the President’s Design Award in Singapore.

Jackson’s work as a designer and artist is concerned with the exploration of symbolism and their meanings, stories and creation. In 2011, Tan was named as one of Time Out’s 50 Movers and Shakers of Singapore’s Art Scene. He was also appointed to The Straits Times’ Life Power List in 2015.

Hjalti Karlsson / Karlssonwilker Inc (b.1967, Iceland/USA)

Hjalti Karlsson founded the award winning design studio Karlssonwilker Inc. with partner Jan Wilker in 2000. Karlsson has launched a number of notable creative projects over the course of his career, including work for MINI/BMW, Bloomberg Businessweek, Nintendo, Swatch, Museum of the Moving Image, Vitra, and Reykjavík Art Museum. He is a recipient of the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize and has been featured in numerous publications.

Karlsson has served on design juries internationally, including the position of chairman of the design jury at the Clio Awards and for Red Dot Design Award. He lectures regularly around the globe and is a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale). Karlsson was born and raised in Reykjavík, Iceland, and is an alumnus of Parsons School of Design.

Renne Angelvuo / Winwin Design (b.1949, Finland)

Renne Angelvuo has a career more than 3 decades in branding, packaging, industrial design and marketing communications. He founded and runs WIN WIN DESIGN in Helsinki. He has been working with some major Finnish and international brands, NOKIA, MySQL, NESTLÉ, METSÄ TISSUE / SAGA, UPM KYMMENE, STORA ENSO, FAZER, SAARIOINEN, BIOKIA, LINKOSUO and THE LONG DRINK COMPANY to name a few. Renne has been a Jury member of RED DOT AWARD for many years in a row. He also lectures and speaks on several national and international forums. Renne was President of EPDA 2015 - 2018 and a member of the board since 2009. He acts also as the head of EPDA Award / Future Packaging competition. WIN WIN DESIGN has got international awards such as Red Dot Grand Prix, Best of the Best and Pentawards in packaging design.

Andy Yang (b. 1973, Malaysia/Singapore)

Andy Yang is a visual artist based in Singapore. Andy received his fine arts education from the renowned Malaysian Institute of Art in Kuala Lumpur and graduated in 1994. After that, Andy enjoyed a successful career as an illustrator. In the mid-2000s, a trip abroad took him vis-à-vis artworks by the European masters. The profound impression left on him by these experiences led him to broaden the horizons of his creativity and to explore visual artistic languages. Since then Andy has been participating in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including Emotions at Instinc Gallery (2011), Abstract Innovations at One East Asia Gallery (2013), Existential Passages at K+ Scott’s Square (2016), and The Many Glimpses of Drama at Art Forum Gallery (2017).

Lim Qi Xuan (b.1991, Singapore)

Lim Qi Xuan is a 27-going-28 year old sculptor, better known by her moniker, QimmyShimmy. She works as a designer by day and an artist by nightfall, fuelling her two passions with caffeine and even bigger dreams. Her miniature sculptures, which are described by many as "creepy-cute", fuse two worlds of the real and the imagined, treading between the fine lines of horror and beauty. Her aesthetic sensibilities have been shaped by her love for fantasy stories, old curiosities, time-travel and a yearning for worlds natural and made-believe. QimmyShimmy's works have been showcased in galleries around the world, in cities like New York, London, Milan and Hong Kong. She is currently based in Singapore.

He created the Red White Blue series, a series of artwork based on the red-white-blue bags which are commonplace in Hong Kong. He was awarded the hong kong contemporary art awards 2012 and the hong kong arts development awards 2011 – award for best artist (visual arts) in 2012.
